The Bailey Exposed Exhibition

I have just been to the Bailey Exposed exhibition at the National Portrait Galley. It was a fascinating glimpse into the fashionable world.

Bailey was the fashion photographer I admired when I started in the 1960s.

It takes a lot of imagination to be a good photographer as I know very well. Bailey captured great shots of Fred Astaire, Sophia Loren, Rudolf Nureyev, David Hockey, Jean Shrimpton, who was very beautiful and Catherine Deneuve, who he married in 1965.

His early work was mainly black and white, he said he wanted to capture the emotions of the person and not the background. Another great photographer at that time was Terence Donovan.

Bailey has always taken his work very seriously and I admire that.

The exhibition has over 250 works personally selected by David and ends on 1st June.
